Russia accelerates rotorcraft fleet renewal
Around 135 new helicopters were delivered to the Russian military in 2014, as the country continues a wide-ranging modernisation of its rotorcraft fleet.
The majority of aircraft were received by the Russian Air Force’s (RuAF’s) army aviation service, which saw its attack fleet strengthened by 46 Mi-35Ms, Mi-28Ns and Ka-52s. Tactical transport squadrons received as many as 72 Mi-8MTV-5-1 and Mi-8AMTSh/AMTSh-V helicopters.
All of these helicopters are NVG-compatible, which, in combination with intensified night operations training, has considerably strengthened the nocturnal fighting capability of the Russian army aviation service.
