Royal Navy welcomes first Merlin Mk4 delivery (video)

The first Leonardo AW101 Commando Merlin Mk4 /Mk4A out of 25 aircraft was unveiled yesterday, during a ceremony at the Royal Navy Air Station, Yeovilton.

The aircraft to be utilised by the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) – an upgrade to the Mk3 – includes a new automated folding tail and main rotor blade as well as an avionics overhaul and a strengthened undercarriage to increase maritime durability. At full capacity it can hold 24 mission equipped troops and up to 16 stretchers.
