AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, recently delivered the first AW101 helicopter featuring Rockwell Collins latest generation cockpit display system. This new cockpit first flew on the AW101 in October 2009 and achieved Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) certification in June 2010.

"This new cockpit display system provides pilots with enhanced situational awareness while decreasing their workload," said Dave Nieuwsma, vice president and general manager of Mobility and Rotary Wing Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "Our solution meets all of AgustaWestland's requirements for military and civil use and provides users with a cost-effective way of customizing their helicopters for a variety of customer specific mission requirements."

The system features five high-resolution, 8- by 10-inch displays with a graphics server, multiple video inputs and night vision goggle capabilities enabled by a secured Ethernet network communication system. The cockpit display system also includes a secure Ethernet switch, data concentrator units, control panels and multipurpose control display units. Rockwell Collins is also providing radio navigation and communication equipment as part of a contract awarded to AgustaWestland in March 2008.
