RNLAF tests acoustic gunshot detection system

The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) has conducted a series of trials with a Microflown AVISA prototype acoustic gunshot detection system installed onboard a Eurocopter AS532U2 Cougar Mk2.

The trials were conducted in early June over the military training area near ‘t Harde with the transport helicopter being exposed to small arms fire from a Colt Canada C8 5.56mm carbine, an AK-47 7.62mm assault rifle and a FN Herstal M2 .50 cal (12.7mm) heavy machinegun. 

Dutch AH-64D Apaches and CH-47D/F Chinooks are fitted with Terma’s Aircraft Survivability Equipment when on operational deployment, while the Cougars are equipped with a missile
