Norwegian defence chiefs have decided that operational training and evaluation (OT & E) of the NH-90 will be implemented at Bardufoss.

It is the recommendation of the Inspector General of the Air Force (GIL) and Inspector General of the Navy (GIS), with support from the Chief of the Defense Logistics Organization (FLO), that the defense chief has decided this.

By choosing Bardufoss Air Station as a place for OT & E will the military have the best conditions to ensure the aircraft is ready for operational missions.

The need for natural NOK flight hours have been important during the general inspectors investigation work which formed the basis for the recommendation.

The Air Force sees a positive benefit by having OT & E at Bardufoss, because they can build flight hours but also gather expertise in one place.

Such an environment at Bardufoss is important, the idea is that the establishment of the NH-90 will be easier in that environment and this can be maintained over time in one place. The RNAF say that personnel will have a good predictability and stability with this decision.

The first helicopter is expected to Bardufoss in the autumn of 2010.
