Mistral cancellation casts shadow over Ka-52K programme

Despite currently having no home to go to, the first Kamov Ka-52K shipborne attack helicopters will be delivered to Russian naval aviation front-line squadrons in 2017 or 2018, it has been confirmed.

The Ka-52K was originally developed for operations from the deck of the two Mistral-class (Vladivostok-class) amphibious assault ships built by STX France in St-Nazaire.

Each of these vessels could take on board up to eight Ka-52Ks, in addition to eight more Ka-27/29s

However, the contract for the French-made ships was terminated in August 2015 – the ships being retained by France while Russia will receive its money
