The tender for the delivery of further five Mi-17 helicopters for the Polish Military contingent in Afghanistan has been concluded, Minister Bogdan Klich informed during a press conference on 10th February.

The winner of the tender has been Metalexport trade company whose bid has been set at about 313 mln zl ($106 million). This will be another purchase in a series of so-called "Afghani packet" designed for strengthening the contingent in Afghanistan. Contracted helicopters will been delivered to the Polish troops from July to September.

The Helicopters will be upgraded to meet the requirements of the operation in Afghanistan, minister Klich also informed. Multi barrel machine guns and passive defence systems will be mounted on helicopters by Military Air Works No. 1 (WZL-1) within three months of their delivery by the tenderer. "The negotiations were harsh but effective as we need to implement modernisation programmes for PAF according to the policy "the same for cheaper", minister Klich added.
