Lockheed Martin has won a US Army contract for sustainment solutions for the target acquisition and night vision sensor system of the AH-64 Apache helicopter, the company announced on 9 February.
Under the $82 million contract, Lockheed will provide a sustainment solution for the Modernised Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system. The solution will enable mission readiness, reduce support and operation costs and improve maintainability and reliability of the system. This contract is the third of three one-year options in an initial $111 million contract.
The M-TADS/PNVS provides Apache helicopter pilots with long-range, precision engagement and piloting capabilities for flight safety and mission success in day and night conditions as well as adverse weather. It includes forward-looking infrared sensors that provide enhanced image resolution, allowing Apache aircrews to engage targets and provide situational awareness outside detection ranges to ground troops.
Lockheed Martin has delivered over 1,300 of these systems so far to the army and international customers.
