LAAD 2013: First upgraded Panther nears certification

The first upgraded Panther K2 helicopter is expected to pass certification this month, ready to be delivered to the Brazilian Army in mid-May for operational evaluation.

Work being carried out by Eurocopter subsidiary Helibras will see the Panther equipped with new Arriel 2C2CG engines – delivering 40% more power – a new engine hood, modernised transmission, more powerful air intake and a new glass cockpit with a four-axis automatic pilot.

At the LAAD exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Helibras displayed the first of 34 helicopters that will be modernised through until 2018, providing more than 275,000 hours of work for
