Kazakhstan’s fledging aerospace and defence industry has received one of its largest ever deals, foreseeing the local assembly of Russian-made 13t helicopters for military and government customers.

Kazakhstan Engineering, 405 ARZ MRO plant and Russian Helicopters inked on 17 January a tripartite agreement, calling for the in-county assembly of the Mi-8AMT/171 portfolio of helicopters.

The assembly works are to be undertaken at 405 ARZ plant in Alma-Ata, using knocked-down kits, supplied by Russian U-UAZ company, a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters. The plant will also undertake customisation of the aircraft to meet the specific requirements of the local customers.
