Italy approves AW169MA order for army

The Italian MoD's Air Force Armaments and Airworthiness Directorate (AFAAD) has approved the acquisition of 15 new Leonardo AW169MA advanced multirole helicopters and associated technical support, for the Italian Army.

Spending laid out in the contract for the aircraft, as part of the army’s Light Utility Helicopter programme totalling €337 million, will also go toward the development and purchasing of two commercial basic trainer variants of the AW169.

The full level of funding lasts from 2020-2028 but includes a four-year extension option of €10 million, which, if activated, would begin in 2029.
