HeliRussia 2016: Russia to get Arctic helicopters
According to Russian Helicopters holding, the Russian MoD is set to take on strength in 2016 and 2017 with an initial batch of five Mi-8AMTSh-VA assault transport helicopters optimised for Arctic operations.
The first Mi-8MTSh-VA was handed over to the Russian MoD in November 2015 following a brief flight-test programme undertaken by the Russian MoD’s 929th State Flight-Test Centre.
Two more helicopters are now in final assembly and after delivery will be assigned to a Russian military unit based at Tiksi airfield beyond the Polar circle.
