Heli-Expo 2012: MD to fly new 540F this year

MD Helicopters is to fly its new model 540F this year, it has been revealed.

Speaking at the company's press conference at Heli-Expo 2012 in Dallas, MD CEO Lynn Tilton was reluctant to give too many details about the aircraft, but told Shephard the aircraft featured an uprated engine, the landing gear of the MD600 and weighed in around 3,300 and 3,500 lbs.

The aircraft is expected to feature a six-bladed main rotor with composite blades produced by Van Horn.

Tilton said the aircraft was being aimed at military and parapublic customers who might require the extra payload capability, but
