HAL to manufacture Ka-226T

An indigenous helicopter production deal between India and Russia was signed in late December after more than a year of negotiations

The contract, sealed when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Moscow on 23-24 December, covers the domestic production of approximately 200 Kamov Ka-226T light utility helicopters for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF). 

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is lead integrator to produce these rotorcraft under a Russian-Indian joint venture. The deal is purportedly worth between US$700 million and $1 billion. Under the terms of the contract, Russian Helicopters is likely to deliver the first 40-50 units
