The German Federal Ministry of Defense has announced that the NH90 NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) will be the successor to the Sea Lynx Mk 88A as the German Navy’s new helicopter platform.

Germany has 18 NH90 NFHs on order for delivery from 2025.

In German service the helicopter will be designated the Multi-Role Frigate Helicopter, and will be very close to the French Caiman variant.

The helicopters will form an integral part of the frigate system for German Navy vessels. Equipped with sonar, radar and torpedoes, they will be capable of naval warfare while also supporting maritime operations through transport and rescue missions.
