Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
Thales and Rheinmetall Defence Electronics will partner to supply or upgrade 20 Tiger helicopter simulators for French and German armed forces, it was announced on 12 February.
The work will be done as part of a contract awarded by the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation. The new simulators will feature the latest Thales computer generated force software and ThalesView image generator and database.
A total of 18 simulators will be upgraded. Ten cockpit procedure trainers and eight full mission simulators will be upgraded at three training centres: Germany's Fritzlar 36th combat helicopter regiment, France's 5th combat helicopter regiment in Pau and the French-German Tiger aircrew training school in Le Luc, France.
Additionally, Thales will supply two new Tiger cockpit procedure trainer simulators for the French 1st combat helicopter regiment in Phalsbourg.
With this upgrade and supply contract, the training facilities involved will receive new weapon systems, communications, datalinks and sensor simulation functionalities. These added functionalities will bring the facilities in line with the latest French Tiger HAD1 combat support variant and German UHT2 anti-tank/fire support variant.
