Russian Helicopters has revealed that the first Kamov Ka-226T helicopter modified for shipborne-use has rolled out from the Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise.

Ordered by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSS), it is earmarked to supplement and eventually replace the Ka-27PS currently used for sea border patrols and SAR.

FSS has ordered an initial batch of six Ka-226Ts which will operate from the deck of the newly-procured Project 22460 border patrol ships assigned to the FSS’s border patrol arm.

The budget for the Ka-226T procurement amounts to roubles 2.214 billion (equating to about US$35 million at the time of signature).
