FIDAE 2016: Carabineros marks AW139 milestone
Chile’s national police force, the Carabineros de Chile, is celebrating a year with one of its new acquisitions, the Finmeccanica Helicopter Division AW139, at this year’s FIDAE airshow in Santiago.
Delivered in April 2015 and now based at Tobalaba airfield, west of Santiago, the force has been operating the AW139 in several roles, including EMS, SAR and law enforcement.
Lt Col Alejandro Cornejo, an AW139 pilot and second-in-command of the Prefectura Aerea, told Shephard that the addition of the aircraft has boosted the force’s capabilities, particularly for hot and high missions.
