Farnborough 2010: Work underway on Julius Chinooks

Thales has delivered the first components for the Royal Air Force (RAF) CH-47 Chinook Project Julius cockpit upgrade programme.

Two Chinook Mk2As, currently undergoing overhaul work at Vector Fleetlands, will be used in the development programme for the Urgent Operational Requirement. The contract was originally signed back in September 2008.

The work will see the electro-mechanical instruments currently fitted to the aircraft replaced by a modern glass cockpit using Thales TopDeck avionics suite.

Originally, the Julius upgrade was only going to be applied to a handful of Chinooks but in 2009, the decision was made to take the entire fleet
