China finally signs AHL contract

China and Russia, after a long passage of time, have finally signed a commercial contract to jointly develop the Advanced Heavy Lift (AHL) helicopter, a new-generation platform that sits below the size of an Mi-26.

The news was announced on 28 August by Miao Wei, China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, at the MAKS defence exhibition in Moscow.

At a press conference, Miao said, ‘For the next step, the Chinese government will accelerate the progress for project approval and finish it as soon as possible, so the project can officially start.’
