Boeing/Thales win Australian HATS programme

Australia has named a Boeing/Thales partnership as the winning tender for a new joint-service helicopter training system for its defence force worth $700 million.

In a statement on 23 October, the Australian Department of Defence (DOD) formally confirmed Boeing Defence Australia, teamed with Thales Australia, as preferred partner for the Project AIR 9000 Phase 7 Helicopter Aircrew Training Systems (HATS) requirement.

The Australian DOD has allocated more than $700 million to acquire the new training system, which includes around $200 million in new and refurbished facilities at HMAS Albatross in Nowra, New South Wales.
