Australia gives green light to first step in new helicopter pilot training system

The Australian government has given the green light to the development of a new basic flight training architecture that will provide initial qualifications for military helicopter pilots ahead of their transitioning into dedicated rotary wing courses.

The new basic flight training project, designated Air 5428 phase 1, will establish a new ab initio training system for pilots from all three Australian military service arms, with rotary wing candidates to then be streamed into the planned Air 9000 phase 7 new helicopter aircrew training system.
