Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
Airbus Helicopters and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) have begun talks to identify potential areas of cooperation for Poland’s Kruk attack helicopter programme, the company announced on 28 April.
The cooperation will centre on offering the Tiger HAD aircraft for the programme. Poland is seeking 32 attack helicopters to replace the Russian-made Mil Mi-24 Hind models currently in use.
Discussions involving the global network of Tiger HAD suppliers and local companies are now underway as part of efforts to maintain strong industrial ties with Polish industry for the programme. Areas of potential cooperation include design, production, integration, and maintenance.
Mickael Peru, managing director, Airbus Helicopters Polska, said: ‘We are not just laying the groundwork for future Tiger production in Poland: we are also paving the way for the establishment of a Tiger industrial network in the same way we have been doing with the Caracal.
‘The Tiger is the most versatile and agile attack helicopter on the battlefield, and we are committed to strengthening Poland’s defence industry in terms of advanced technology and expertise by making it a Polish helicopter.’
