EADS North America is independently funding three technical demonstration aircraft (TDA) aimed at meeting the requirements of the US Army’s Armed Aerial Scout (AAS) programme, it was announced on 15 April.

Speaking to reporters at the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) annual convention in Fort Worth, Texas, EADS North America CEO Sean O’Keefe said the three AAS-72X aircraft would be used to demonstrate and further validate the company’s bid for the AAS programme.

The AAS-72X is derived from the UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter already in service with the US Army.
