GDOTS to provide tritonal for Mk80 series
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS) has received a $111.85 million firm-fixed-price contract for tritonal components used in Mk80-series general purpose bombs (the 250lb Mk81, 500lb Mk82, 1,000lb Mk83 and 2,000lb Mk84).
Work on behalf of US Army Contracting Command will be completed by 30 December 2022, the DoD announced on 12 February. GDOTS was the only bidder.
Tritonal is a mixture of TNT (80%) and aluminium powder (20%), which is designed to be create a powerful blast than TNT alone.
