Raytheon Missiles and Defense is providing new and improved software, plus software risk reduction and support, for the development of Operational Flight Software 10.15 which is required for the production of AIM-9X Block II missiles in the US.

Work on the $52.2 million contract from Naval Air Systems Command is expected to be completed in July 2023.

AIM-9X Block II is being produced for the USAF, USN and various FMS customers such as Canada, other NATO allies and nations in Asia and the Middle East.

Shephard Defence Insight notes that the heat-seeking AIM-9X Block 1 Sidewinder is the most widely used AAM on US and allied fighter aircraft. It can also be mounted on helicopters.
