UK rolls out unmanned vessel framework

Leading figures in the UK’s maritime industry have grouped together to introduce a code of conduct for the development, design, production and operation of maritime autonomous systems (MAS), in particular unmanned surface vessels (USV).

The pan-industry code of conduct was quietly unveiled at this year’s Oceanology International in London. The agreement represents the first community-accepted code for USVs, which could eventually be rolled out beyond the UK.
