Schiebel announced on 9 March that it has completed heavy fuel acceptance testing of its S2 engine, which is to be used by the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Camcopter S-100 UAS.

The S2 is an advanced variant of the engine on the Camcopter S-100. It has been designed to enable Schiebel to explore the expansion of its VTOL capabilities before the RAN Sea 129 Phase 5 programme begins.

IOC for Sea 129 Phase 5 is expected in the mid-to-late 2020s.

The RAN is currently in the process of selecting its future UAS capability for use on the Arafura-class OPVs.

JP-5 (F-44) and Jet-A1 fuels have been tested for use in the S2 and have been approved for future use.
