Schiebel announces heavy fuel flight

A heavy-fuel variant of a Camcopter S-100 UAS completed its maiden flight on 12 March, manufacturer Schiebel has announced.

The UAS was flown at the company’s range near its production facility in Wiener Neustadt,
Austria, during which it ‘fulfilled all expectations’. According to the company, the maiden flight follows ‘extensive development’ on the VTOL UAV.

‘The heavy fuel engine provides customers with the ability to use JP-5 (F-44), Jet A-1 (F-35) and JP-8 (F-34),’ the company said while claiming that such ‘flexibility’ was not available in other VTOL UAS.
