New UAVs appear around Southeast Asia

The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are all introducing new UAVs, including both imported and indigenous designs.

Vietnam has been inducting new UAVs indigenously designed and built by the government-owned Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications Group. At the same time, the Philippines and Thailand are receiving UAVs from Boeing Insitu.

In mid-2019 the Vietnamese Border Defence Force took delivery of three VUA-SC-3G UAVs. They are being used for tracking targets by day or night, mapping surveys, traffic monitoring and search and rescue missions. It can transmit data from its sensors in real time. The tactical-sized aircraft has a pusher propeller, twin tail boom and tricycle landing gear.
