Wave Glider tackles illegal fishing

The ocean is becoming more automated as Liquid Robotics’ Wave Glider, an unmanned ocean robot, embarks on a mission to tackle illegal fishing around the Pitcairn Islands.

The Wave Glider has been tasked with patrolling the 834,334 square kilometres of protected ocean surrounding the South Pacific Islands. The robot uses wave and solar energy to power instruments and enable long endurance missions.

‘People are transitioning from just playing with the technology to now putting robotic technology into operational use,’ said Graham Hine, co-founder and SVP of global partner development at Liquid Robotics.
