Oceanology International 2018: Thales question UV maritime readiness

Thales has raised concerns over the failure of UV and UAS to be adequately supported within maritime environments.

During a speech at Oceanology International in London, Tim Munn, maritime technical lead at Thales, said that placing UVs into an industry where capital platforms remain expensive and procurement times are lengthy had not helped the UV cause.

'Unmanned systems are entering an enterprise which is constrained by operational expenditure, recruitment and retention issues and an evolving threat which is no longer based on sets of big ships attacking one another but rather one which is much more asymmetric,' he said.
