Israeli firms showcase unmanned technologies

At the recently held AUS&R exhibition near Tel Aviv a range of unmanned technologies were showcased to visiting delegates.

Unmanned capabilities continue to effect current and future battlefield planning for militaries across the world, with a growing number of roles being explored for such technology on land, at sea and in the air.

At the show itself a senior IDF official expressed this point, stating that unmanned solutions were required to meeting emerging threats ‘wherever they may be’.

One UGV showcased at the exhibition, among other ground systems, was the Rambow by Meteor Aerospace. The autonomous electric vehicle is designed for multiple missions, including supporting ground combat, strategic installations and border security and ISR. Its maximum speed is 50km/h.

Elsewhere was the ThunderB, a UAS developed by BlueBird Aerosystems. The small UAS has a capability to fly for more than 25 hours and, according to the company, creates a niche in the tactical UAS arena in providing capabilities previously found only in much larger systems. 

The ThunderB usually carries an advanced EO/IR payload and a long-range communication system.

Unmanned cargo delivery and logistics support is also being explored as a key future capability for military forces worldwide, offering a way to avoid sending manned platforms into dangerous situations.  ...
