EDA to launch UMV MCM study

Christian Breant, the Research and Technology Director at the European Defence Agency (EDA), told delegates at the opening session of UDT Europe that the agency is about to launch a major study into the future utilisation of unmanned maritime systems for mine counter measures (MCM).

The EDA is conducting the initial study in to next generation MCM capabilities on behalf of a number of member nations including France, the Netherlands and Belgium, which are all looking for follow on capabilities to be available in the 2018 timeframe. Breant said that it would be a big project for the EDA.
