DSEI 2013: Qinetiq expands Welsh UAV test site

Qinetiq has announced that it has signed a teaming agreement with Llanbedr Airfield Estates in Wales to incorporate its airfield as a UAV operations centre.

Complementing the West Wales UAV Centre (WWUAVC) that is already established in Wales and is operated by Qinetiq, the new agreement aims to facilitate more UAS training in the region for both military and civil systems.

‘The one thing holding back the UK is lack of activity,’ Paul Hearn, business development director, air division, told Shephard at the DSEI exhibition on 11 September. ‘This is about opening up more possibilities. At the moment flying UAS
