Certifiable Predator B becomes SkyGuardian
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) is to rebrand its next-generation Type Certifiable Predator B (TCPB) as SkyGuardian.
The new name steers clear of the menacing nomenclatures of the armed MQ-1 ‘Predator’ and MQ-9 ‘Reaper’ and instead reflects the non-military applications for its latest generation of UAV.
A GA-ASI spokesperson told Shephard that the new family of UAVs would also include SeaGuardian, a non-weaponized maritime patrol variant.
'While our Predator B aircraft series is closely associated with military missions, our newest certifiable variant is a natural choice for non-military uses and required a name that reflected this positioning,' the spokesperson
