Sea-Air-Space 2018: Manned-unmanned aircraft integration underway

Integration testing between the US Navy's manned P-8A Poseidon aircraft and its MQ-4C Triton UAS is underway with plans to ramp up efforts in the coming years.  

Speaking with reporters 10 April at Sea-Air-Space 2018, Capt Tony Rossi — the programme manager for the maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft — said the service has begun 'basic level of integration' testing between the two platforms.

Integration efforts, he explained, are taking place at the Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station and have included voice-to-voice communications, 'successful' Link 16 integration and a common data link was used
