Major Greek-Israeli deal places emphasis on training

Government-to-government agreement includes M-346 training aircraft and a flight school for the Hellenic Air Force.

Greece and Israel are poised to seal a 20-year government-to-government package worth almost $1.7 billion, with a significant role for Elbit Systems.

Athens approved the agreement in early January 2021 but it still awaits a formal signature from the Greek and Israeli defence ministries.

With the backing of the Israeli MoD,  a bid from Elbit Systems emerged successful in an international tender to establish and run a flight school for the Hellenic Air Force.

The facility will be modelled on the Israel Air Force flight academy. Elbit prevailed over competition from Canada-based training systems integrator CAE.
