ITEC 2018: Joined-up laser thinking

Feedback for UCATT’s Laser Engagement Interface Standard (ULEIS), now approved by SISO and also recognised as NATO STANREC 4816, is currently in process from partners, industry and militaries as the project moves forward to achieve a NATO standardisation.

ULEIS replaces the older OSAG2 standard for live, laser-based training.

Within a 2016 research paper, it was stated that the standard was to be applied to the optical interface which would be utilised to communicate a simulated weapon engagement from a weapon simulator platform to a target simulator platform. Furthermore, the ULEIS would also communicate ‘administrative and any other kinds of information’.
