ITEC 2018: SISO meeting heralds ITEC

As in previous years, the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) will be organising its annual ‘Seminar on Modelling & Simulation (M&S) standards’, in conjunction with the ITEC 2018 conference and exhibition.

The seminar will be held on Monday 14 May 2018, the day before the ITEC opening, and at the same location, Messe Stuttgart, Germany.

The event will start with an introductory session presenting SISO, its activities, some recently approved standards and those emerging in the future. NATO M&S Group (NMSG) standardisation activity will also be introduced in the same session, as NATO is a key stakeholder in the M&S standards world and a close partner of SISO.

An example of this close relationship can be seen with the UCATT Laser Engagement Interface Standard (ULEIS), which was approved by SISO and is now recognised as NATO STANREC 4816. ULREIS replaces the older OSAG2 standard for live, laser-based training (see picture) and, ‘is now under the full governance of SISO,’ Armin Thinnes, chairman of UCATT told Shephard.

Although considered by some as a rather dry topic, standards are vital for the development of collaborative training and networked operations today and in the future.
