D&S 2019: Indian air chief checks out HTT-40 trainer

State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) played host to Indian Air Force (IAF) chief ACM R.K.S Bhadauria on 14 November when he rode in a prototype HTT-40 basic trainer. The flight, captained by HAL’s chief test pilot K.K Venugopal, took off from Bengaluru.

HAL’s prototype HTT-40, powered by a Honeywell TPE331-12B turboprop, is an indigenous basic trainer with MTOW of 2.8t, top speed of 450km/h and range of 1,000km. The all-metal aircraft has a tandem cockpit with FADEC-controlled engines, zero-zero ejection seats and multifunction displays.
