SOFIC 2017: Aurora touts armed XV-24A (video)

Aurora Flight Sciences is showcasing the potential roles of its XV-24A 'LightningStrike' VTOL unmanned aerial system at this year's SOFIC exhibition in Tampa, Florida.

Currently in development as part of DARPA's VTOL X-Plane programme, the company has said the aircraft could be used in a multitude of roles including as a weaponised 'escort' variant. 

The armed escort version could be used to fly alongside manned V-22 Osprey aircraft during special operations missions including insertion and casualty evacuation.

Shephard spoke to Steven Whitmarsh, Direct of UAV business development at Aurora Flight Sciences about the development of the XV-24A and the capabilities
