SOFIC 2017: Aurora touts armed XV-24A (video)
Aurora Flight Sciences is showcasing the potential roles of its XV-24A 'LightningStrike' VTOL unmanned aerial system at this year's SOFIC exhibition in Tampa, Florida.
Currently in development as part of DARPA's VTOL X-Plane programme, the company has said the aircraft could be used in a multitude of roles including as a weaponised 'escort' variant.
The armed escort version could be used to fly alongside manned V-22 Osprey aircraft during special operations missions including insertion and casualty evacuation.
