White Paper calls for USN shipbuilding increase
The US Senate Armed Services Committee has in a new white paper called for an increase in shipbuilding for the US Navy with additional submarines and patrol vessels procured, among other platforms and capabilities.
The recommendations laid out by Senator John McCain, chairman of the committee, include a $640 billion base national defence budget in FY2018, which is $54 billion above current planning. The paper lays out its strategic aims for all branches of the US armed forces over the next five years.
