The US Navy’s Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) USS Montgomery has successfully completed combat system ship qualification trials, the navy announced on 17 July.
During the trails, crew conducted several trials to validate the performance of the combat systems suite, involving firing exercises and using the 57mm gun against a fast attack craft. The exercise was designed to test the ship's ability to track and disable high-speed manoeuvring surface targets.
The trials also included demonstrations of the Automatic Launching of Expendables decoy launching system and 57mm Bofors gun weapons system.
Montgomery will now enter training and certification for deployment. The vessel is homeported in San Diego and is undergoing routine maintenance and training in preparation for deployment.
