Sri Lanka sells patrol vessels to Nigeria
The Sri Lanka Navy has sold nine indigenously-built small patrol vessels to the Nigerian Navy, marking the country's first government naval export deal. The Sri Lanka Navy announced the sale on 6 May.
The vessels were built by the navy's Inshore Patrol Craft Project at Welisara, Sri Lanka.
The deal included the supply of six Arrow patrol boats and three Wave Rider inshore patrol vessels worth around $4.2 million in total. The vessels were officially handed over to the Nigerian government in an ceremony on 6 May.
The Arrow patrol boat is a high speed patrol craft developed by the Navy Special Boat Squadron to meet the needs of the Sri Lanka Navy's littoral warfare units in the 1990s. Around 120 of the type have been indigenously produced to date.
