SAS14: USCG boss calls for more vessels
In spite of DoD budget cuts, the Commandant of the USCG has called for more ships to be brought into the force’s fleet as vessels face obsolescence and threats continue to rise.
Adm Robert Papp told the Sea-Air-Space conference in National Harbor that the US has the largest EEZ for which a sovereign presence is required, although financial constraints are hindering the protection of this.
‘The US coast Guard has that capability, but we are shrinking,’ Papp explained. ‘I echo the sentiment…build more ships,’ he proclaimed. ‘We now have one of the oldest fleet of ships in the world and
