China ends corvette production run
Commissioning has occurred of the final two Type 056A corvettes for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), completing construction of an impressive series of 72 vessels dedicated to coastal defence.
The two final vessels are the Nanyang (hull number 619) and Shangqiu (618), these entering service on 30 January and early February respectively, according to a CCTV television report.
In fact, the final hull to commence construction in December 2019 was Aba, although it was finished sooner than Nanyang and Shangqiu. Four shipyards shared construction of the corvette type.
