ORP Orzel in service for the next decade
The Polish Navy intends to keep its sole Kilo-class submarine, ORP Orzel, in service for at least another decade. The vessel entered the fleet in 1986.
The expected extension of Orzel’s service life is related to the navy’s decision to overhaul and repair eight 533mm 53-65KE torpedoes which arm the Polish submarine. A contract worth of zł11.3 million ($3 million) has already been signed with a Warsaw-based Thormex company, which will be responsible for related service works.
