LUSV concept design work to end in May 2022
More details have emerged about the large USV (LUSV) concept design study contracts awarded to six US companies on 4 September.
These studies have an anticipated completion date of August 2021 with an option for additional design studies, which would extend the forecasted completion date to May 2022.
The work (by Austal USA, Bollinger Shipyards Lockport, Gibbs & Cox, Huntington Ingalls, Lockheed Martin and Marinette Marine) will inform the USN when it develops a future competitive procurement for LUSV detail design and construction.
The USN originally issued an RfP for its first block of LUSVs in September 2019, with the intention to begin procurement in 2021.
